Friday's Movie Night #5: The Royal Tenenbaums.

For me this movie was a great discovery 3 years ago; I've heard of it before, but never cared to watch it, but when I did I totally fell in love with its surreal reality. I love the lives of the characters and their kitschiness, I love the sets and the photography. Well, I guess I'm a Wes Anderson fan, hahaha!!

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

"The crickets and the rust-beetles scuttled among the nettles of the sage thicket.
"Vámonos, amigos," he whispered, and threw the busted leather flintcraw
over the loose weave of the saddlecock.
And they rode on in the friscalating dusklight."

Friday's Movie Night #4: VIY.

Watched this more than 20 years ago for the first time, but even if I remembered most of the scenes I didn't actually remembered the name, a few years ago I re-discovered it and was so happy!

A little girl like me, back in the time wasn't actually scared, even if the film is meant to be a terror movie, I actually thought it was magical, all fantasy! And the other night when I re-watched, apart from understanding the movie, I thought again that it was magical!!
I must confess the first half of the movie is a bit slow, but is pure poetry, especially the part when Khoma, the seminarist met the old lady, don't ask me why, but I love that part! xDD
Everything in this movie is so simple and yet so magical! And I have to love the witch, she's SO sweet and beautiful! How she moves, her expressions! I especially love the part with the shaking finger! ♥

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

"By the shades of night, may he go blind, turn his hair white.
Bewitch him. Cover him with snow.
A curse upon you! With the wings of a bat! With the blood of a serpent!
I shall curse you! Curse you!
I summon the vampires! I summon the werewolves!...
I summon Viy!"

Friday's Movie Night #3: Los Amantes del Círulo Polar.

I never get tired of recommending this movie, I went to the cinema when it came out and I cried for a week after watching it.
This is the story of Ana and Otto, a love story, pure love, love in every form and everything love causes. A story of taking risks and giving into destiny.

Friday's Movie Night #2: Don't Deliver Us from Evil.

The main reason I love this movie is because of the friendship both girls share. They might be twisted, but they share so many things. Maybe I like this aspect of the movie because I never had a real friendship, I don't know.
Some may consider "Mais ne nous délivrez pas du mal" offensive, but I don't see how, it's actually pretty realistic. People compare it to "Heavenly Creatures", and while I can see the resemblance, I prefer this one since it's a little more extreme and feels more real, I don't know how to explain it, but it's less structured, it flows better.

Comme un long sanglot, tout chargé d'adieux;

Friday's Movie Night #1: "The Spirit of the Beehive".

Many won't agree with me, but I find this movie so inspiring and magical. Some find it slow paced, some find it boring and some find it meaningless. But good stories don't need to be fast paced, and I think it's perfect the way it is.
Two things I love about this movie, Ana's eyes and the overwhelming hands close-ups, and no, I don't have a hand fetish, hahaha! Plus the scene when Teresa is in bed and she wakes up, I totally see myself in there.

"Ya ni rencor ni desprecio
ya ni temor de mudanza
tan sólo sed…, una sed
de un no sé qué que me mata
rios de vida, ¿do vais?
aire! que el aire me falta
¿Qué ves en el fondo oscuro?
¿Qué ves que tiemblas y callas?
¡No veo! Miro cual mira
un ciego al sol cara a cara
Yo voy a caer en donde
nunca el que cae se levanta."
